Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 Review

I don’t need to mention how popular are the anime movies and manga today. Although they have been created in Japan over the years they have achieved worldwide popularity. As you know, many manga comics have been turned into anime and many anime series have turned into video games. We’ve already seen many games that are based on anime movies, and since anime movies are so popular we’re positive that we’ll see more of those games in the future. One special anime series that has been turned into game franchise is the Bleach series. As you know, we’ve seen all sorts of Bleach games on several consoles and PlayStation Portable isn’t not an exception. Actually, PSP has two Bleach game series available on it, one is Bleach: Heat the Soul that has been present since 2005. As for Bleach: Heat the Soul we’ve already seen six installments and we’re about to see the seventh one in near future. Besides Bleach: Heat the Soul, another series has been present on PlayStation Portable and that series is Bleach: Soul Carnival. Although it hasn’t been present for many years like Bleach: Heat the Soul it’s still a great series that provides a lot of fun to the fans of the anime series. Bleach: Soul Carnival has debuted on PlayStation Portable in 2008 but now Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 is out so let’s check what this game has to offer to its fans.

Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 is action platform game just like the previous one and your goal is to go from far left side of the level to the far right while fighting with all sorts of enemies. Interesting thing is that in Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 you can choose one of the 24 characters. Of course, not all 24 characters are available from the beginning so you’ll have to unlock them all by completing stages, but at the beginning of the game you can play only as Ichigo. Interesting thing is that some characters can transform but that’s up to you to find out. As for the gameplay, we’ll have to say that it looks really attractive. It’s a 2D platform action game with great graphics, and all characters look rather cartoony which makes the game really appealing to the gamers. This is still an action game with elements of role-play therefore you have green bar that represents your health and a blue bar that represents your spiritual power. In addition, there’s an orange bar that is called Battle Power Bar and when it’s filled you can unleash a powerful super attack. Each time when you attack an opponent you’ll see a number that represents amount of damage that you’ve dealt. Of course, you can perform up to four special attacks that consume your spiritual energy. By defeating enemies, you gain experience points and after gaining enough of them, you earn a new level. Interesting thing is that there are 120 support characters available in Bleach: Soul Carnival 2. You can assign them to your character and you can call them anytime if you need help during the battle and you can even connect them into Soul Link. Up to three characters can be summoned into battle with a simple key combination and after you’ve summoned a character you’ll have to wait for some time until you can summon it again. Not all characters can be summoned into battle, that way some of them will improve your stats or give you new abilities. Besides support characters, there are a lot of items that you can find that will give you different stats improvements depending on their color. For example, red items will raise your attack power while yellow ones will raise your hit points, blue items raise will your defense and white items will raise your spiritual bar. There are black items available as well that raise several different stats or add elemental defense. You can even add items to your special characters that will make them even more powerful. As you can see there are a lot of RPG elements available in this game and you can make powerful characters with the right combination of items.

Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 looks great because of its cartoony graphics but besides great graphics, this game provides interesting gameplay. Boss fights are intense and cutscenes are taken from the anime, and they look amazing on the PSP. The only flaw of this game might be levels that are sometimes confusing to navigate but overall Bleach: Soul Carnival 2 is a great game for all the fans of Bleach and platform games.
